Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that contains many luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
